Bunker project

We have started on repairing the bunkers that hold water. We will do the green side bunkers first then move to the fairways. The process is to remove the gravel and contaminated sand. Then clean or replace the pipe. Backfill gravel and add new sand. If you find yourself in a bunker that is being repaired consider the whole bunker as ground under repair .

Projects

We are a little more than half way done putting in new pine straw in the pine mulch beds around the course. Once we finish we will move on to the bunkers, we will starts with the ones that hold water and repair the drainage and backfill with sand. Then we will fill the green side bunkers that are low. After that we will address #5 cart path with erosion control and concrete. Then we will haul dirt for the ladies  tee boxes and eroded drain inlets.

Aerifying tees and some weak areas

We are aerifying some tees and weak areas as well as some winter kill spots throughout the course. Not all tees will be done. The tees and areas will be a little rough for a few days but will recover quickly. Maybe a local rule for landing in an aerified area should be discussed prior to play.

Aerification on greens

We are aerifying today and tomorrow. I have decided to use a solid 1/2 inch tine and not topdress the greens. I do not think that the greens can handle the process of topdressing. The dragging in of the sand is very stressful to the turf and i dont think the greens would fair to well with the tempertures that we are having in their current condition. I do have plans on verticutting and topdressing in about two weeks. Here are a couple of pictures.

Greens

We are seeding the bad areas on the greens. If you can avoid walking on the green sanded areas it would help out a lot. Thank you.

Cart and walking wear areas

A member and I came up with solutions to repair some wear areas on the course. Dz has helped us with some projects in the past. He is responsible for the new range poles, range tee deviders and signs on the course. He and I have came up with ideas to improve some wear areas throughout the course. We are starting on #15 walking path behind the green. The plan is to convert the railroad ties to pavers. The crew has removed the ties today as well as backfilled the holes. This area will be roped off until the project is completed. Thanks to all the volunteers in advance for you efforts.

Preemergent for crabgrass and goosegrass

We are spraying preemergent for crabgrass and goosegrass. If you haven't done it yet it would be a good time for you to as well. It is  a sign to put out your preemerge when the Forsythia is about to bloom or just has bloomed and before the Dogwoods bloom. This is a picture if bloomed Forsythia.

The tall fescue rough areas

We have mowed down the tall fescue rough areas on the course. We are going to maintain these areas more this year. I am going to implement a weed control program so that these areas do not get inundated with those tall obnoxious weeds we've had in the past.

#11Bunker Update

We are almost done with this project. We were slowed down in February with all the bad weather but the only thing left to do is sodding. Its been raining all morning and the "frog pond" is not filling up.

Out spraying some winter weeds

Spraying winter weeds such as PoaAnnua, Green Kalinga, Winter Rye to name a few. If you were wondering the white dots are, they are foam drops so I know where I've sprayed and not there just to make it hard to find your ball.

More snow on the way

Just when everything was starting to melt now there's more snow on the way not very good for the golf game. But we did cut a couple trees this week that might help you out the next time you play. Check out the before and after pictures.

#11 Bunker

If you have played Brickshire lately then you should have noticed the work we are doing on #11.  We are installing new drainage due to the fact the old one was completely clogged and we had to abandon it. The wet weather has been keeping us from progressing. We have made a few attempts at it but the ground is too soft and the equipment will not get enough traction to do the job. With more wet weather on the way it doesn't look like we are going to be advancing on it early this week either. I will keep you posted on the project. I also plan on hauling dirt to the new ladies tee boxes soon so they will be going back to their original boxes until completed.
